Giving thanks is such an important part of who we are and I think so many of us, including myself, forget far too easily just how important it is. Of course we all thank others regularly, but with so many things going on in the world around us, it’s quite easy to overlook the real meaning of gratitude.
Gratitude is defined as “the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful.” Such a simple concept. So simple, in fact, that we overlook its transformative power. Gratitude has the power to change our lives – to shift our perception of our lives from “not so great” to the “luckiest person in the world.” It is with pure amazement that I marvel at my own ability to simply change my view of my circumstances some days and Voila! It’s like a new me or a new life!
How can this be when nothing externally has really changed? It all goes back to our inner viewpoint and the power we have to transform our own lives from within. By going within we are able to find a peace and satisfaction like no other. For it is within, in our inner world, that we create our outer world from the feelings, ideas, and beliefs that we carry with us each and every day and express to the world.
So if you truly want to improve the world around you, consider making changes in your heart and your mind first. Try coming from a place of gratitude for all you have in your life and you just might be surprised not only at all the good you suddenly see, but what else good comes your way as a result of a renewed take on life.
